Our zealous Fornax runners ran the Wizz Air Budapest Half-marathon for the first time
Our athletic co-workers entered the 32nd Wizz Air Budapest Half-marathon taking place on the 10th of September 2017, and this was the first time they participated in the competition. Our contestants entered as two trios, and both our mixed trios ran the 21 kilometres in the relay category.
This year’s Wizz Air Budapest Half-marathon saw more foreign participants and more people entering in pairs than ever. Almost 15 000 runners participated in one of the favourite running events in Hungary, where many people ventured to run the distance alone, and there were contestants pushing prams from the start.
The route traversing both Buda and Pest touched the city’s most beautiful spots yet again. The runners started off in the City Park, they ran along Andrássy út, skirting Hősök tere, then crossing over to Buda to pass the Castle Garden, which gave them a chance to relish the view of the Fisherman’s Bastion, the Gellért Hill and the Danube basking in sunshine. The experience was definitely enhanced by the 16 musical stations taking care of the entertainment of runners and the cheering crowd alike.
The finish line was in the City Park – the arriving contestants were outnumbered by the large crowd of supporters waiting for them. The festival atmosphere was apparent this year as well. Music had been already playing since Saturday, the participants and the audience were greeted by preparations, games, equipment stands for last minute purchases, large amounts of health conscious and delicious treats and a real market bustle.
Fortunately the weather was also very clement, the event turned out to be a great experience for everyone.
We congratulate our colleagues for their amazing persistence and performance. We can’t wait to see what’s next, and wish them every success.
Go Fornax!
